At Hotel Cerro de Hijar we are alumni of hotel schools of the most famous in the country and we are catering professionals and great food lovers.

Therefore we decided to share with our customers , the knowledge we have gained through our long experience.

We currently offer ethno-gastronomic activities ranging from wine tasting tour to small cooking courses.

Master Class Cooking: where our chef creates step by step and in great detail a dish from Andalusian or Spanish cuisine in the presence of those attending the course.
To guide and better use of the Master Class a small introductory talk is given and documentation is handed out with the recipe and brief history of the particular preparation.

This course is suitable for large groups, students do not perform the preparation but they will be able to do it by themselves back home from the trip. The dish is tasted by students at the end of the class in the form of cover or appetizer.

Preparation and presentation: In this course students guided by our chef prepare a three course menu, from preparation to presentation for which they receive the necessary material and theoretical guide.

First a talk about the menu and how has been chosen and then step by step the processing methods employed , always guided by our chef , finally a presentation sample is performed.
The menu will be completed and set for service to students by the hotel staff.
The tasting takes place in the restaurant and becomes a dinner or holiday meal for the group.
This course is suitable for small groups from 2 to 12 participants maximum.

Guided Tasting : This is a tasting of the wines produced in the DO Málaga or the DO Sierras de Málaga, students receive detailed information on the history, the evolution and current status of both denominations and of the processed products under the same.

No minimum or maximum number of people for this tasting is necessary.

Hotel Cerro de Hijar´s Horseriding are performed at Finca La Rejertilla, you can do varied routes, with different levels of difficulty and suitable for all audiences.

The minimum duration is one hour , if the rider has no previous experience , we recommend a three-hour route as maximum , where you can have a first contact with the horse, knowing the technical and management of the route. If the rider has previous experience it must be notified to the monitor and you will enjoy a more complex route, riding in narrower paths and with a bit more difficulty .

Before each route , the monitor will give horsemanship basic instructions. All tours are guided by a specialist who has extensive knowledge and experience in handling horses, and all the way will give horsemanship instructions and information on the landscape and sights of the area.

It is recommended to wear long trousers and flexible , sport shoes high boots.

The Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park is for its environmental and ecological values ​​a unique hiking area , “Pinsapo” (spanish fir) forests, Hispanic Wild Goat and other protected species , collecting mushrooms or bird watching are some of the attractions.

In Tolox as in the other 8 villages that make up the environment of the Natural Park there are marked trails and beautiful scenery . Access to the interior of the park is by forest tracks where rest areas and amenities are layed out.

La Caina clif, the glen of “Las Carnicerias” and of course the “Torrecilla” Peak 1992m high, along with famous caves and chasms are some geographical landmarks of the first order, within the park, should also be note the presence of Monumental trees wich in themselves justify the visit, such as the Chestnut St. of Istan or the Pinsapo of Escaleretas in Tolox both certainly stars of this protected area.

To facilitate the use and enjoyment of the natural park of the Sierra de las Nieves in the Hotel Cerro de Hijar we provide all necessary information and have detailed maps of the park with all the routes and trails.

Based at the foothills of the Sierra De Ls Nieves natural park we have access to some of the best trail riding in southern Spain. We are almost spoiled for choice!

We use a fleet of the new Kawasaki KVF 300 quad bikes which are all fully automatic and very easy to ride. Just perfect for the spectacular tracks that surround the Biosphere reserve.

We have a team of experienced guides who will give you all the training and guidance required to make sure you are fully comfortable and in control before we head out to explore this amazing landscape.

As we don’t mix groups our quad bike adventure tours are perfect for experienced and novice riders alike as we are able to create a custom tour, based around the the skill set and experience of your group to ensuring you have an adventure you will never forget!

Our tours start from a 2 hour adventure up to a half day adventure including lunch.
All our vehicles are legal to carry 2 people and are at a cost of €99 per vehicle for a 2 hour tour.
We recommend that everyone wears long trousers and closed shoes. NO FLIPFLOPS.
It is a legal requirement to hold a full car license to be able to drive a quad in Spain.

The Caminito del Rey

In the municipality of Ardales, at about 50 kilometres (1 hour by car) from Hotel Cerro de Hijar, we can find the “Caminito del Rey”, one of the most spectacular hiking route and touristic activity in the province of Malaga.

The route runs through a vertiginous parallel suspended at 105 meters above the Guadalhorce river, while surrounding the steep walls of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes. The track is 7.7 kilometres long and medium difficulty, suitable for all visitors as long as they have a minimum physical shape, the trip lasts for about 3 or 4 hours.

The opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 during summer and 10:00 to 14:00 during winter.

The ticket price is € 10 per person or € 11.55 with shuttle bus included (parking the parking to the entrance). The entry fee also includes liability insurance, in case of any contingency occurs and safety equipment assigned at the entrance. It is advisable to book in advance as visits are limited to about 1100 people per day.
